DENTELLE - SAMPLE AND GARMENT PROJECT
The ‘Dentelle’ project explores the human fascination with teeth, as symbols of power and for decoration and embellishment. It began with my research into historical Cabinets of Curiosity, and grew to encompass the ivory trade and mammoth fossils. The colours and textures in the samples are based on my drawings of mammoth teeth in museum collections. Several designs incorporate elements of beading and use tagua or ‘vegetable ivory’ as a sustainable alternative to animal ivory.
